STORIES FROM BEHIND THE LENS

Sometimes the love story of a couple or the way that a family shoot makes me feel needs to be expressed in more than pictures.  Sometimes it is important to explain certain aspects of a shoot to potential clients in more than a simple FAQ post.  For such times these blog articles will fill the gap.

  • Double tap if you know this spot! .
Every time I drive down this road I think to myself ‘I’ve got to get a couple here’ but most of my weddings happen to take place in the Midlands.
.
I was so happy to shoot Dylan&Micaela’s #durbanwedding and use the best view in town!
.
After taking this set of photos we walked further down the hill and took some photos with the 70-200mm. Mmmmm, the bokeh is to die for!! Luckily the weather was overcast so we didn’t have to worry about the background being blown out. The conditions were just perfect.
.
Thanks @annshoots for shooting with me! Your photos, presence and creativity were uplifting and valuable. ❤️
  • Micaela and Dylan had the most delightful garden wedding at St Anne’s Guest house.
.
@micaelakarina is a dear friend and was a colleague of mine for years. We spent many MANY hours in the car together talking about everything with no topic off limits. We were able to get to know each other deeply and form a wonderful friendship.
.
I loved shooting your celebration Micaela and Dylan. Thank you for inviting me! I know that photography was a big priority for you and I appreciate that you trusted me with it.

I look forward to sharing more of these over the coming week. ❤️
  • No clever caption, just a couple on their wedding day and some crazy beautiful sunlight.
  • I have been incredibly lucky to have made so many wonderful friends in the wedding industry. This is Kezia - a very talented make up artist - and she’s relocating to Johannesburg in December 😭 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re getting married in JNB, please get in touch with Kezia. She’s amazing - and we’re sad to see her go! @blendmakeupandhair

  • The crinkle in her nose tells the story of a genuine smile. A true happiness that a bride on her wedding day knows.

I’ve just been chatting with a photographer friend about different ways to capture the speeches. What’s your favorite lens for this?
I always have my 70-200mm on one body, and lately I’ve been getting table level and shooting nice and close with my 85mm on the other body. An off camera flash aimed at the person giving the speech means that I can move anywhere in the room (wide and tight shots) and the lighting stays the same. This makes for consistent images.
What’s your style for reception shooting?
  • @cara.maxine.photography shot with me a few Saturday’s ago and got this awesome image of the bride and her bridesmaids just before the ceremony. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This moment, before the bride walks down the aisle, always yields emotive imagery. The bride is usually nervous and emotional. Her Dad (or whoever is giving her away) is usually beaming with pride. The guests are shifting in their seats, straining to catch a glimpse of the bride as the processional music begins.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s an exciting time and a fantastic photo opportunity.
