Sometimes the love story of a couple or the way that a family shoot makes me feel needs to be expressed in more than pictures.  Sometimes it is important to explain certain aspects of a shoot to potential clients in more than a simple FAQ post.  For such times these blog articles will fill the gap.

Online community - I have a few available weekends for 2020. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Please would you help me out by tagging your friends, family and colleagues who are engaged. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I might just be the photographer they’ve been looking for, they just don’t know that I exist. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re engaged and would like to have a look at my packages, please email me: hello@derrynschmidt.com. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’d love the opportunity to shoot your wedding. ❤️😘
  • This was one of those moments when someone from the bridal party said ‘how about this photo’ and it was such a great suggestion.
I hope that EVERYONE knows - whether you’re a client of mine or not - that you’re free to be open with your photographer about what you’re looking for on your wedding day.
I’ve spoken to so many people who wish they’d spoken up and made a request for a photo. Have you got any wedding day regrets?
Remember that wedding photographers are just people, doing their job. There’s no harm in making a suggestion or requesting a group shot. If they think it’s a terrible idea for some reason (like a bridal party of 12 jumping on an old wooden bridge over a dirty pond) - he/she will tell you and come up with something similar but better. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Are there any photos you regret not asking for?
  • Kris & Nick ❤️ Engagement shoots are a great way to ‘practice’ before the big day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Almost EVERY single couple I meet warn me about how awkward they feel in front of the camera - these two were no exception.
My response to couples who worry about the awkwardness of having their photos taken is always the same - “all you need to do is be you. My job is to help you to feel relaxed so that you enjoy the experience.”
Another piece of advice - is to try not envision the outcome. You’ll have expectations of how you think you should look, pose and behave. It’s so much better if you allow your photographer to ‘read’ you as a couple and draw on your natural energy and emotion. If you’re not super affection, it would be weird to have sexy, cuddly, kissing photo because that’s what you’ve seen online and that’s what you think is expected of you.
Just relax, trust your photographer and enjoy yourselves! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Thank you!
  • Tino and Megan came from the UK to get married in SA. He’s got family in Zimbabwe and she’s got family in Nelspruit.
They were lucky enough to all spend a few days together before the wedding day, so the day itself just felt like an extension of their holiday. It was wonderfully relaxed! .
Thank you inviting me to shoot your wedding Tino&Megan. ❤️

  • A sweet and tender moment between
Micaela&Dylan minutes before walking down the aisle.
It was an actual real life moment (as opposed to a Pinterest image recreated) that happened spontaneously because Dylan had a question for Micaela.
Micaela planned three weddings across the globe so that she could include as many of her loved ones in the celebrations as possible. She also sewed 3 dresses. She ALSO happens to be a very talented photographer. @micaelakarinaphotography
