I love shooting in the nature of the KZN country side, but I REALLY love shooting in the city.

It’s not something we get to do often because there aren’t many inner-city venue options in the Durban, but Carla and Kyle found a gem, The Bond Shed. Together with their wedding planner Gail, they pulled off a gorgeous event for their friends and family in the Durban CBD.

The house that they got ready at belongs to a friends of theirs, but I highly recommend checking out what’s available in your area on Air B&B. A beautiful space for bridal prep is not just great for aesthetic reasons, but because it sets the scene for a day of beauty and spoils…and while you’re at it, grab yourself a gown from Kathrin Kidger.

Some personal photos from our weekend at Lake Naverone, where we were snowed in for the weekend. We were meant to stay for only one night, but it became clear on our first morning there that our car was not going to make it out.

It was a tough weekend for so many, which is why it’s taken me so long to share these photos. For us though, It was just the best, and exactly what our little family needed. We had no electricity and no signal - which meant no phones!! I loved being disconnected from everyone and everything. I know that if I’d been aware of what other people were going through on the roads, my mind would have been completely consumed with their stories and not present in my own.

It’s scary how often I reach for my phone. For no real reason except to check. Check for WhatsApps and emails. Check the time. Check my calendar. Check my notifications.

It was a lesson I clearly needed, and for which I’m grateful.

Although I’ve gone the route of primarily shooting families and weddings, I’ve always done a bit of product and brand photography too. I’ve invested in some great lighting equipment and I’m excited to start developing this branch of my business into something bigger.
